Sanum Patel is a South Asian writer and attorney based in New York City. He writes both to unsettle and make you laugh, often threading humor and horror in his works. His writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Kweli, The Tusculum Review, and The Good Life Review, and has received editorial recognition from The Missouri Review. He is a 2026 alum of The Kenyon Review, DISQUIET International and VONA summer workshops.

He does not believe literary prose should be boring. Whether writing about a rock's religious awakening, a princess riding a city bus, or a boy raised in the sky who has never seen a woman, he believes a story should work on two levels: immediately entertaining on the surface, before deeper currents are explored underneath.

When he is not writing, Sanum enjoys visiting national parks, practicing Theravada Buddhism, and value investing. When he is writing, he's usually just in a dark room. Balance is key.
